True Stories Don't Have Happy Endings

This is a punk rock song I recorded for No Talent in early 2007. It's about the controversy between classic bedtime stories and the real life. You know how stories always end with the prince saving the princess and the two of them living happily ever after? In real life, how often does that happen? Not too often. Besides, the classic stories always veil the adventures in glamour and glory. In real life all the glamour is merely an illusion created in our heads. Once you get to see the true face of something you once thought was full of glamour and magic, the illusion is forever broken. Take Britney Spears for example - she led a life every teenager would have killed for. Beautiful, rich, famous, talented... But she couldn't keep the illusion up forever. Day by day it slowly wore off and the truth behind the veil of glamour was revealed. Who'd like to be in her shoes now? Another thing I had in mind while writing the lyrics was that no matter what you do in your life, in a way you'll always be alone. You can't really own anyone and while you can be surrounded by your loved ones, inside your head it's just you and nobody else.

What I love about this song is the C-part with the guitarpicking and the in-and-out-fading notes. It brings a nice calm atmosphere just before the chorus blows in your face. I'm also very satisfied with the lyrics and the theme. It kind of came out all by itself, didn't have to push any of it. The mixing was rather difficult since there were many layers of guitars and I'm no expert, but I did the best I could. I'd say this one's a good all-round song, no number one hit, but a nice addition to the No Talent set.
